Dignos is a plural form of Digno, a spanish word which means - appropriate, fitting, or worthy. This reflects that the Dignos clan members belong to a dignified clan with appropriate demeanor, attitude, and worthy of a place in society.
If it is Spanish in origin, does it mean our forefathers are Spanish. The answer maybe "NO" or maybe "YES."
But here's history that might give you an idea. On 21 November 1849 (wow that was so long ago!) Governor General Narciso Clavería y Zaldúa issued a decree popularly known as the Claveria Decree requiring Filipinos to adopt Spanish surnames for ease of census. The Dignos forefather having dignified character used the word to describe his personality and that of his clan. A salute to him, whoever his name, I call him "Lolo ABRAHAM DIGNOS".
In forebears.io Dignos is listed as 115,292nd most common surname in the world. According to their database, which I refute, there are only 3,512 people bearing this surname: 4 in Canada, 17 in the United States, 3 in Saudi Arabia, & 3,480 in the Philippines. Well, no other country is listed. The location maybe considered as permanent residence.
If you guys are not counted, you might as well "CRY OUT LOUD." Shout like "Hey I'm here in UK and we are 50."
The Dignos word have different variations in different languages. The wordsense.eu listed the following:
Wherever you are, be proud of your clan because you are worthy-- you are DIGNOS.
